Mini Book Review: The Inheritance Cycle

After 3 years, I finally finished the Inheritance series written by Christopher Paolini. It has been on my “to-read-list” since I was in highschool after reading about it on a magazine. At the time, I was reading Harry Potter and I thought that they were kind of the same. I didn’t get the chance to buy the books back in the Philippines. So by the time we moved here and saw the series were being sold in Indigo Chapters, I knew I had to buy it right away. Although I didn’t start reading it until probably 2018.

Now my verdict:

Fantasy books most of the time had their own language and this book is no exception. Good thing the author had the meaning and how to pronounce each words (names and places) at the end of the book. I kind of see the similarity between The Inheritance Cycle and the Lord of the Rings. I haven’t read the LOTR book but I was familiar with the movie. Similarities I found were their names. And I always picture the elven (in Inheritance Cycle) as Legolas. In my imagination, Arya was Crystal Liu—I don’t know why but somehow the character fitted her. The dwarves, especially Orik reminded me of a character from How to Train Your Dragons.

I wouldn’t sugarcoat it though. Book one and book four I find it very exciting to read—I think all the thrill were in the first and last book. Book 2 and 4, however, *sigh* dragging and kind of boring. There were a lot of narration to the point I almost skimmed through the pages. But then, when I do that, I wouldn’t be able to understand the story. I thought the reason why it took me forever to finish this series was because I got busy with work and school LOL that wasn’t the case. I find it hard to continue reading when I don’t find it exciting anymore. I couldn’t even start a new book because I wanted to finish the series before starting a new one. I’m just sad Eragon didn’t really have a happy ending. After all he’d been through *sigh* He deserved better.

Well, if I am going to rate it in total it’ll be 4/5. Hmm, 4 is higher than what I wanted to rate it. But I overlooked book 2 and 3—I loved book 1 and 4 hence the rating LOL Do I recommend this book/series? Yes, and I definitely recommend a lot of patience too LOL
