Camping: Spruce Woods

In celebration of my friends’ wedding, we decided to go camping 45 minutes away from town. It was a week after their wedding and we were really excited for it. One of my colleague told me that Spruce Woods is her favourite camping site and there are a lot of activities you could choose from.

We decided to hike first before going to our campsite. There was a mishap though, because my friend’s husband ‘C’ led us to the dunes instead of the shorter trail so we end up doing a 10km hike. It was fun and hot. Good thing it was windy—the bad thing? It was sandy. A lot of sand went into my sneakers and my friend ‘A’ decided to walk barefoot when we were in the dunes lol. It was easier to walk according to her but the sand were hot.

After an almost 5 hour hike, we decided to go to our camp site, wash up and prepare for supper. Since I have no talent in cooking, I decided to start setting up our tent. My friend ‘A’ and her husband ‘C’ have their camper (cheaters lol jk), while me and another friend (with her husband) brought tents. The campsite was huge so we set up our tents in each corner of the site. We kind of regretted it few hours later, because while we were sitting by the campfire a pair of skunk “visited” us lol.

My friend ‘M’ heard something rummaging through the garbage and when we shone the flashlight towards the direction, lo and behold—a skunk was trying to look for food. Well, I warned all of them to start putting away the foods and utensils before getting drunk but it seemed like no one listened. So friend “M” and friend “C” took our garbage and throw it to the garbage site (?) While they were away, my boyfriend heard another shuffling sound and apparently, another skunk joined the first one and they’re both looking for food. We all stood up from where we were sitting (in front of the campfire) and backed away lol. Good thing we did, because one of the skunk went to where we were sitting at. We were all scared to get sprayed on. They left when they realized there were no food lying around since we already cleaned up when the first skunk showed up.

That’s when everyone got paranoid to the point that even the rustling of leaves or the movement of branches made us thought that the skunks were back. We even considered moving our tents closer together. Anyway, the skunks probably went to other campsites because a few moments later, we could see one site and it looked like they were shining flashlight around. Probably looking or checking if the skunk was still around. We were joking that the skunks were probably found food from other campsite and that they didn’t bother coming back to our site because we have none. We just hoped the way back to where they hide is not on our site.

The shower stall in this campground was nice even though it’s small and coin operated (1 dollar=3 mins). It is clean and I was able to wash and rinse with just a dollar—I ended up using another because when I thought I have enough time to use soap again, the water stopped. LOL. I didn’t know how long the water will run ahead of time. I usually don’t use public washroom when I have to do #2 because I can’t. Namamahay ako. So when I felt the urge to go, I asked my friend (who had the camper) if I could use their toilet. It was embarrassing but you gotta do what you gotta do, ‘ey.

I forgot how late we stayed up that night—probably until 2am? The next morning around lunch time after we had our brunch, we went to the mini golf area. We decided that whichever couple loses will treat the group ice cream. My boyfriend and I managed to do one shot on different “course” and when we thought we lose, we didn’t. Even the staff were happy when they saw us celebrating because my friend “A” and her husband “C” were the ones who have to buy us ice cream. Friend “A” initially didn’t want us to pay for the reservation fee but we insisted because they’re already treating us for ice cream. Besides, we felt bad for not giving anything.

I will attach my friend’s vlog from our hike and camping experience. I also have videos and pictures but because I’m too lazy to edit it’ll be a while before I could even upload it here. I’m also planning to edit our videos when we went to Alberta last year. I wanted to start a YouTube channel focusing on our travels. I guess the only thing holding me back is my lazy-ass and procrastinating. I should have all the time now since I’m done with school (yes!) and done with my exam (the waiting game for the result is on! scary!). But we’ll see. For now, check out this vlog:

Well, that’s it for now. Stay safe everyone!
